Meet Mary & Jim

My name is Mary Hendrian. Eight years ago my husband Jim and I founded Emergency Aid For Children, a non-profit organization. We called the Michigan chapter H.A.P.S. (Help Appalachian People Survive).

Our mission is to make a difference in the lives of those in need in the Appalachian Mountains. We have concentrated on southeastern Kentucky, an area which is one of the poorest in the region.

The families have been hard hit by high unemployment in the coal mining and logging industries. Unfortunately too many people are living in poverty.
